Privacy policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
This policy explains how Carter Society ("we", "us") collects and uses your personal information when you use our website cartersociety.store, the Carter Society app at app.cartersociety.store, our checkout (run by Shopify), our emails, or when you contact us.
Who we are
Carter Society is responsible for your information (the "data controller"). You can contact us at cartersocietyuk@gmail.com, on 07960 178364, or at 58 Preston Road, Weymouth, DT3 6QA, United Kingdom.
What we collect
- Order details: your name, email, phone number, delivery and billing address, and what you bought. Card details are handled by our payment providers. We never see your full card number.
- Email sign-ups and alerts: your email address, and any alerts you ask for, such as price drops or last sizes.
- App features you choose to use: photos you send for The Final Society, photos you upload to try a piece on, messages you send to the Keeper, and your phone notification settings.
- Usage data: device and browser details, IP address, the pages you view and what you add to your bag, collected through cookies and similar technology.
- Messages and reviews: anything you send us, and reviews you leave.
How we use it, and why
- To take payment, send your order, handle exchanges and answer your questions (to carry out our contract with you).
- To send you marketing emails, only if you've signed up. Every email has an unsubscribe link (your consent).
- To show our pieces to you on Instagram, Facebook and other platforms, and to see which adverts work, only if you accept marketing cookies (your consent).
- To keep the website, app and checkout secure, prevent fraud, and run and improve the shop (our legitimate interests).
- To keep records the law requires, such as tax and accounting records (legal obligation).
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep your bag working. With your OK, we also use the Meta Pixel and similar tools. You can change your choice at any time using "Cookie settings" at the bottom of our website, or the cookie banner in the app. Shopify's checkout uses its own cookies: see shopify.com/legal/cookies.
Who we share it with
We only share what's needed with the companies that help us run the shop:
- Shopify, which runs our store and checkout, and our payment providers, including Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
- Vercel, which hosts our website and app.
- Klaviyo, which sends our emails.
- Meta and other advertising platforms, only with your cookie consent.
- Loox, which runs our product reviews.
- Our delivery partners, to get your order to you.
- The providers behind app features you choose to use, such as the AI services that power the Keeper chat and the try-on tool.
We never sell your personal information.
The Society map and The Final Society
The Society map in our app only shows the town an order was sent to. It never shows names, streets or postcodes. Photos sent to The Final Society stay sealed until 27 December 2026, when they're revealed together as one portrait. Only send a photo you're happy to be shown, and email us if you'd like yours removed.
International transfers
Some of these companies store or process information outside the UK, including in the United States. When they do, they use legal safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting, normally six years. Email sign-ups are kept until you unsubscribe. Photos and messages from app features are kept only as long as that feature needs them.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or limit how we use it, ask for it to be moved to another company, and withdraw your consent at any time. Email cartersocietyuk@gmail.com and we'll reply within one month.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
Our shop isn't aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
